Chord Tone Soloing
Chord tone soloing is an improvisational technique of playing melody lines that contain the specific chord tones of the underlying chord progression. As the chords change in the progression, so do the chord tones. Chord tone soloing is the method of specifically targeting these notes to craft a solo melody. This results in a playing style that sounds more ‘in’ with the harmony as the solos tend to outline the chords over which they are being played.
